Army National Guard Tuition Assistance
Tuition assistance is available to part-time Army National Guard members to pursue their education goals in their off-duty time. Even masters level degrees are eligible for TA coverage if funds permit. There are a few different tuition assistance programs available to members of the Army National Guard. They may even be eligible to participate in more than one.
Federal Tuition Assistance for Part-time Soldiers
The following are the maximum payment amounts allowed under the Federal Tuition Assistance program:
Tuition assistance will cover up to 100% of tuition and fees not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour, or $167 per quarter credit hour, fees up to $500 and no more than $4500 per fiscal year. 100% tuition and fees for high school or equivalent level degree up to the annual cap of $4500.
TA may be used in combination with Montgomery GI Bill-Selected Reserve or Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty if the servicemember is enrolled in at least half-time course load. (Those servicemembers using Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty and drawing a GI Bill Kicker are not eligible for this TA program)
The Federal Tuition Assistance program is not guaranteed as it is dependent on available funding. It operates on a first come first served basis.
Eligibility requirements for Federal Tuition Assistance for Part-Time Soldiers is as follows:
- Must have a valid expense originating from an accredited institution
- Must be a part-time Army National Guard soldier in an active drilling status
- Eligibility begins the day the member joins the Army National Guard (including those in boot camp, AIT or still attending high school)
- A minimum of 4 years of service after completion of last TA assisted course is required for all officers
- Enlisted members must remain in the Army National Guard for the entire duration of the courses
- Those members already receiving an ROTC scholarship are not eligible for this TA program

GoArmyEd Tuition Assistance for Activated Guard and Reserve
Servicemembers who become activated automatically become eligible for the Army’s Tuition Assistance for Active Duty and Activated Reserve/Guard
ACE Tuition Assistance Program
The following are the maximum payment amounts allowed under the ACE Tuition Assistance program: Tuition assistance will cover up to 100% of tuition and fees not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour, or $167 per quarter credit hour, and no more than $4500 per fiscal year.
Air National Guard
The following educational opportunities are offered by the Air National Guard:
- Community College of the Air Force degree program
- Federal tuition assistance for distance learning for members of the Air National Guard
- Access to DANTES credit by exam program
- State education benefits
- State Tuition Assistance

Air Force Tuition Assistance for Activated Guard and Reserve
Servicemembers who become activated automatically become eligible for the Air Force Tuition Assistance for Active Duty and Activated Reserve/Guard. Under this program tuition assistance will cover up to 100% of tuition and fees not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour, or $166 per quarter credit hour, and no more than $4500 per fiscal year.
