Tricare Prime Enrollment

TRICARE Prime is available in the North, South and West Regions in Prime Service Areas Geographic areas in the United States where TRICARE Prime is offered. Prime Service Areas were created to ensure medical readiness of the active duty force by augmenting the capability and capacity of military hospitals and clinics. Prime Service Areas were also built around the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) sites. You can enroll all family members on one enrollment application.

When you enroll in TRICARE Prime, you have the minimum essential coverage as required under the Affordable Care Act.

Step 1: Select a Primary Care Manager

You must select a primary care manager (PCM) who accepting new patients to enroll. You can select a military hospital or clinic, if you live within the facility's enrollment area. If not, you'll select a PCM from the TRICARE network.

If you submit an enrollment application without listing a PCM, one will be selected for you.

Step 2: Complete the Enrollment Application

You have three options to enroll: online, via the mail or in person at a TRICARE Service Center.

Log on to the Beneficiary Web Enrollment Website and follow the instructions to complete enrollment online.

2. Via the Mail

Download the enrollment form for your region and mail it to your regional contractor.

Walk in to any TRICARE Service Center to turn in your enrollment application. Find a TRICARE Service Center near you:

After your regional contractor processes your application, you'll receive a welcome letter listing your PCM and an enrollment card for each family member enrolled.

  • Your TRICARE Prime start date is printed on your enrollment card.
  • Keep a copy of your enrollment application until you receive your enrollment card.  
  • If you must get care before receiving your card, contact your regional contractor to verify your TRICARE Prime start date and PCM assignment.

Retroactive Enrollment for Same-Sex Spouses

Same-sex spouses of active duty service members rank E-4 and below may be added to existing coverage to begin on June 26, 2013 or their eligibility date in DEERS, whichever is later. Applications must be received no later than December 31, 2013. All others may enroll using the existing 20th of the month rule.
